Hi! I’m Kelly.
I’m a queer feminist documentary producer, writer, and communications professional. My work is fueled by a commitment to the transformative power of nonfiction storytelling and collaborative creative practice. I care a lot about making powerful ideas accessible, entertaining, and actionable for the people who need them most.
I won a Peabody Award for my work on the four-part SHOWTIME documentary We Need To Talk About Cosby, and I won an Emmy for producing the HBO documentary 1000% Me: Growing Up Mixed, which screened at DOC NYC Selects and the San Francisco International Film Festival and was awarded the Television Academy Honors. Other recent credits include the Emmy-winning CNN docu-series United Shades of America with W. Kamau Bell.
I started my career as an Assistant Professor of Performance Studies at Arizona State University, where I taught and wrote about feminism and the politics of performance. I went on to serve as Vice President of Creative at Who Knows Best Productions, comedian and director W. Kamau Bell’s production company. For the better part of a decade, we worked with artists, academics, and activists to drive cultural change by any media necessary. Currently, I’m the Bridging Differences Content + Engagement Manager at UC Berkeley’s Greater Good Science Center. With a team of big-hearted scholars and artists, I create science-backed tools and experiences to build a more loving and just society.
I have a Ph.D. from UC Berkeley and a B.A. from Tulane University. I want to dismantle white supremacy and make the world safer for bodies of all sizes, genders, and sexualities. And I always want to hear about your favorite bakery and whatever you’re watching on TV right now.
